Mother’s Day was May 12 this year. Ever since I became pregnant and birthed my daughter, I have thoroughly enjoyed Mother’s Day. It is a special day to honor all mother’s, the ones we have, the one’s that we are and the one’s we are yet to be!!
Moms are the Life Force in our world and without Mother’s, none of us would exist.
Being a Mom, has been the Best and Most Challenging Job of my life and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I am sure most of you feel the same way. The sweetest, best years of my life, up until now! Now that my daughter is 26 years old, I get to look back and reflect on all those joyful memories of the moments spent having fun with her. From changing her first diaper, to reading her bedtime stories, to watching her play soccer and compete on her Cross Country Team, to graduating from high school and going to college. So many special moments that have brought me Joy, Fun, Laughter and Tears, in good ways and difficult ways in my life. I am sure you can relate with your own experiences.
One thing I know for sure is that the environment that we grow up in provides the benefits or the potential impacts over our health long term. It is why I interviewed Chip Osborne of Osborne Organics LLC this past month as he shared his experiences over the years being a professional horticulturalist, florist and landscaper. It was fascinating delving into his years of experience with how our horticultural and landscaping systems worked and have become transformed. When he initially started back in the 1970’s with his father’s business, they used the traditional four-point system of applying pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and more over the course of the year to help people to have beautiful yards and agricultural lands. Over time, Chip experienced the negative consequences of that system on his breeding dog’s health as well as his families and friends’ health. This helped him to rethink these methods. It was a wakeup call, and he has been a natural as well as experienced organic horticulturalist, public landscaper ever since. The picture above is an example of the work he does and how he can create a beautiful yard through organic or natural methods that is as good or even better than traditional methods. It creates a system where the soil is nurtured to develop the best micobiome that benefits the nutrient needs of the grass, plants, flowers and trees-better for the yard and better for our health and that of our kids and pets!
As an example of this wakeup call, he lived in Marblehead, MA and at one point the town was experiencing high numbers of women with breast cancer. They did lots of studies on this trying to understand the root cause of why this was happening in this upscale community. Eventually, they came to believe that the level of pesticides contaminating the land and water was one factor, so Chip was an expert landscaper who helped the town to convert their public parks and school properties over to natural and organic methods without sacrificing the eye-catching beauty of these spaces. It was a Win-Win Solution for the town, and he has since helped communities in 30 states around the country to transform their public or commercial spaces to non-toxic methods with excellent results!
Hopefully, you become aware of the health benefits of going natural or organic in your lawn and garden, while getting positive results. The best part is that with time, your soil will be super healthy with Mother Nature’s best microbiome to sustain great grass, plants, flowers and trees for the long-term while being non-toxic to the health of your kids, pets, family and environment! Now, that is something to celebrate!
